The INTREPID project is pleased to announce that the INTREPID Final Event will be held on Thursday 26 October 2023 in Brussels.

It will take place in the Silversquare Delta, Av. Arnaud Fraiteur 15/23, 1050 Ixelles, Belgium. 

The meeting will be hybrid, with possible remote participation.

This event is a great opportunity to discover the results and functionalities of the INTREPID project, as well as to discuss subjects specific to the fields of Crisis management and Security.

Pilot 3 takes place between 18th and 22nd September 2023.

This time, it's organised by 3 pilot hosts :

- Spanish school of rescue and detection with dogs (ESDP)

Our partner CPlan (a company expert in crisis management) also helped in the development of the scenario and the event.

It taked place in Los Molinos, near Madrid, in an abandoned Hospital.

A major explosion occurs in an hospital, provoking fire and structural damages to the building. Several unconscious persons are reported throughout the area, raising suspicion of additional chemical contamination. Police is sent out to evaluate the risk of a man-made incident and uses INTREPID to safely inspect the building, searching for potential signs of malevolence. Medical teams, K9 rescue team and firefighters use INTREPID for a first assessment of possible victims and hazards before entering the building.

Our third and last Pilot takes place in an abandoned hospital in Madrid!

Initially scheduled for June, the Pilot date has been postponed to Septembre. This will enable the project to go further in developing and testing technologies. 

It will take place from September, 18 to 22, near Madrid, at the same location as the real-life test in March.

As a consequence, the project has been extended until November, to allow time for the results of the pilot to be implemented on the project, technologies and deliverables.

INTREPID is already part of several clusters, but recently a new one was created : the Responder Technology Cluster (RTC). 

It brings together 9 of the HorizonH2020, and DRS02-related projects, including INTREPID, PathoCERT, INGENIOUS, NIGHTINGALE, RESCUER, MED1stMR, TeamAware, Search & Rescue and RESPOND-A.

Established with the support of the Crisis Management Innovation Network Europe (CMINE), the first meeting took place in April 2023, officially signing the launch of the cluster. Soon, a common "launch" report will be created for all projects to use in their dissemination, impact and exploitation activities.

We are very honored to be part of this project, which will allow us to work with qualified partners, with the same goal: to improve First Responders' safety!

The cluster will focus on developing and testing technologies to enhance first responders’ safety and improve their effectiveness and efficiency. The objective of the cluster is to work together to promote best practices in research, but also to maximise the impact of the various dissemination and communication objectives!

That's why we joined the safety cluster "SAFETY F.I.R.S.T" (First Responder Support Technologies) with 6 others EU funded projects. Supported by the Horizon Results Booster, this cluster aims to develop and test new technologies to help First Responders' efficiency and effectiveness in their missions.

In March 2023, the technical partners and End Users from Madrid (ESDP, ADMPOL and ESDP), reunited for a real life test in an abandoned hospital in Spain.

The scenario from Pilot 3, and different use cases, were tested.
The aim was to focus on the integration of the drones and the robots to the INMOS platform, and to test their new features, among others:

The webinar started with a quick INTREPID presentation from Nicholas (CERTH), the technical manager of the project.

After that, Mirko (FOI) presented this innovative evaluation method through theoretical knowledge and case study examples during 1 hour. Then an answer and question section was open with Charlotte and Mirko.

At the annual conference Forum Bauinformatik (2021), which focuses on the field of construction informatics, our partner TUM published a scientific paper on path planning for first responders in disaster scenarios. During the month of July, INTREPID end-users met virtually for several co-creation sessions. The goal of these workshops? To work on the preparation of the interface design of the INTREPID mobile system (INMOS). 

The end-users had to project themselves on fictitious micro-scenarios and imagine the information and messages they would need to receive/send during the intervention. They then worked on the visualization of these interactions/information on simplified interfaces. 

The information gathered during these co-creation sessions will allow the prototyping of the INMOS user interfaces.

The first INTREPID co-creations sessions review, on path planning

On June 14, INTREPID was part of the CERIS DRS Information Day. This virtual meeting, which gathered more than 100 participants, was the opportunity to keep informed of the status and next steps of current projects, along with our fellow DRS02 projects ASSISTANCE, CURSOR, FASTER, INGENIOUS, PathoCERT and Respond-A.

The seminar included participation from 43 projects of the H2020 Secure Societies as well as different EU policy makers, representatives from the REA, DG Home (Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs) and others European Agency representatives of the DRS projects, around the security research and policies.

On the first day, a session was organized and focused on dissemination, exploitation and communication issues of the EU research projects. It was initiated by welcoming DG representatives whom explained and gave information and guidelines on what should be done in case of a crisis communication on Security projects. They’ve even offered tips on how to use efficiently EU tools such as « Horizon Results Booster » and finally they’ve explained how to increase and boost the impact of the communication in projects and ensure its uptake. 

The second day was mainly dedicated to interactive discussions in groups sessions between representatives from H2020 Security projects and the European Commission policy. Each project was represented by a group session, the aim was to share the objectives of the project in order to identify how they could contribute to the European Commission’s policy on cybersecurity and physical security of critical infrastructure. 

This seminar was a honor and a great opportunity to build a bridge between the DG representatives and the DRS projects. Thanks to this two-day event, a significant wealth of knowledge and expertise was collected, allowing representatives to exchange experiences and identify the potential impacts and risks of such a project. These days have led to the creation of awareness for projects that are now more aware about their work in dialogue with institutions representatives and EC policy officers by showing how to work together. INTREPID benefitted from this event by engaging further relationships with EC policy officers with the objective of best serving all stakeholders of this project. Now let's give space to the whole consortium which will now concretize these exchanges. 

INTREPID was very honored to be part of the « Project To Policy Kick Off Symposium » (P2PKOS) as  a project funded under call DRS-02 (Technologies First Responders). The European Commission Research Executive Agency -REA organized its second annual PSPKOS for security research, on two days.

Project To Policy Kick Off Symposium (P2PKOS) 

This DSR - Disaster Risk Societies - virtual workshop about  “Technologies for First Responders” was a presentation of research outputs of projects funded under the DRS02 topics which INTREPID is part of.

The INTREPID technologies such as the other’s H2020 projects presented themselves and expected that a concrete achievement of outputs will be provided. The workshop attracted 69 attendees and the speaker, Olivier BALET addressed to DRS02 project partners, members of the European Commission and last but not least to end-users such as Law Enforcement Agencies. 

The aim of the workshop was to provide an opportunity to learn more about DRS02 projects so as their outputs, their development and their evolution. Some of the objectives were to analyse capability needs and to identify solutions to address the gaps in the corresponding areas. Moreover, the aim was to translate these capabilities and solutions into research needs to identify funding opportunities and synergies to standardize these needs and integrate to them the views of the citizens. 

Perspectives have therefore been thought out and established in order to evaluate the situation of the project in 2 or 3 years, regarding the potential market dimension, or the effective support policies and the practitioner’s operations. This event allows to build a bridge between high-end technical knowledge, best practices and the useful data.

INTREPID has the opportunity to use this information in order to identify the project’s outputs by doing some research, and apply this analyse to the project to find solutions and create a working energy.

These workshops were based on the end user requirements as well as on the scenarios of the three project pilots. The goal of these sessions was to create interaction between the technical partners and the end-users: on the one hand, the technical partners had the opportunity to ask questions to the end-users to refine the requirements. On the other hand, the end-users were able to transmit their needs and ideas for the development of the INTREPID tool. All these elements will be essential for the writing of the functional and technical specifications of the INTREPID tool.

2021 started with 4 firsts end-users workshops sessions ! From Mon, Jan 11th, to Tue, Jan 19th, the 4 sessions were dedicated to INTREPID assessment capabilities Environmental Mapping Module Path Planning Module, Environment Assessment module, Real-time positioning module, INTREPID Intelligence Amplification Module and INTREPID XR, Doctrine Model (INMOS) and Cybernetics Assistants module.
