DRS02 Cluster Projects

The INTREPID project is part of the EU Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation initiative “Secure societies - Protecting freedom and security of Europe and its citizens” and, more specifically, the EC Work programme SU-DRS02-2018-2019-2020 “Technologies for first responders”.

Resilience is critical to enable the EU authorities to take proper measures in response to a severe disaster, either natural (including climate-related extreme events) or man-made. To create a more disaster-resilient society and reduce the potential damages, it is important to be able to rely on novel and innovative technologies that are affordable, accepted by the citizens, and customized and implemented for the cross-sectoral needs of First responders.

The main objective of the Work topic “Technologies for first responders” is to propose novel and innovative solutions that will improve Disaster Management and Crisis Resolution capabilities of our society and help protect First responders against multiple and unexpected dangers in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.

Several (hundreds) proposals from different consortia have been submitted in response to this work topic, but only 10 of them have received funding from the European Union. Each of these projects involves various industrial and academic partners as well as end users from different countries and brings its unique value to the market. However, at the same time, all of these projects are like pieces of the same puzzle, they complement each other to strengthen preparedness and resilience of Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) agencies.
